Website Privacy Policy – WorkingBlind.ca and WorkingBlind.org
Last updated: December 2025
WorkingBlind.ca and WorkingBlind.org (together, “WorkingBlind” or “the site”) are run by BALANCE for Blind Adults (“BALANCE”, “we”, “our”, “us”).
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information related to the WorkingBlind website. We handle personal information collected through WorkingBlind in line with applicable privacy laws in Ontario and Canada.
This Policy applies only to:
- Information collected when you visit WorkingBlind.ca or WorkingBlind.org
- Information you choose to send to BALANCE using email links on the site
- Information related to the embedded donation form on WorkingBlind, which is operated by CanadaHelps (described in Section 3)
This Policy does not describe:
- How BALANCE handles personal and health information for clients in our service programs
- How CanadaHelps collects or uses information when you make a donation through its systems
- How any other website or service you visit from a link on WorkingBlind handles your information
Those situations are covered by the privacy policies and notices on those other sites (for example, BALANCEfba.org and CanadaHelps.org).
1. What is “personal information”?
In this Policy, “personal information” means any information about an identifiable person, such as:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your phone number
- Any other details you choose to include in an email to us
It does not include information that cannot be linked back to you.
2. What information do we collect through WorkingBlind?
We collect very little personal information through WorkingBlind itself.
We collect information in two main ways:
- Information you choose to send us by email
- Basic technical information when you visit the site
2.1 Information you send by email
WorkingBlind does not have online forms or newsletter sign-ups.
If you click an email link on the site (for example, to training@balancefba.org), your own email program will open. You can then choose what information to send us.
What we receive is whatever you include in that email, such as:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Any other contact information you choose to provide
- Details about your question, feedback, or training request
- The organization you work with (if you choose to mention it)
These emails are handled by BALANCE staff as part of our regular operations (for example, responding to training requests or questions about WorkingBlind).
Note: If you later become a BALANCE client and share health information through our service programs, that information is handled under BALANCE’s client privacy practices, not this Website Privacy Policy.
2.2 Basic technical information when you visit the site
When you visit WorkingBlind, our web hosting service automatically receives basic information from your browser, such as:
- Your IP address
- The type of browser and device you use
- The pages you visit and when you visit them
We use this information to:
- Keep the site running securely and reliably
- Understand general patterns of site use (for example, which pages are most visited)
- Improve the content and accessibility of the site over time
We do not use this information to create detailed profiles of individual visitors.
At this time, WorkingBlind does not use:
- Newsletter or marketing sign-up tools
- Gated downloads that require you to provide personal information
- On-site user accounts or logins
If we add those features in the future, we will update this Policy.
3. Donations made through CanadaHelps
WorkingBlind includes an online donation form for gifts to BALANCE for Blind Adults.
Even though this form appears within the WorkingBlind site, it is provided and operated by CanadaHelps, a separate charitable organization that processes donations for Canadian charities.
When you use this donation form:
- The personal and payment information you enter goes directly to CanadaHelps, not to WorkingBlind.
- Your donation is handled under CanadaHelps’ own Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, not this website Privacy Policy.
WorkingBlind and BALANCE do not collect or store your payment card details from this form.
BALANCE may receive donor information from CanadaHelps (for example, your name, contact details, and donation amount) so that we can:
- Acknowledge your gift
- Keep required charitable records
- Understand overall donor support at a high level
That donor information is then handled under BALANCE’s general donor privacy practices, not this website-specific Policy.
If you have questions about how CanadaHelps handles your information, please refer to the privacy information available on the donation form or on CanadaHelps.org.
4. How we use information collected through WorkingBlind
We use the limited personal information collected through WorkingBlind only for purposes that a reasonable person would expect in this context, such as:
- Responding to you
- Answering questions or requests sent to us by email from the site
- Following up on training inquiries or accessibility feedback
- Improving and protecting the site
- Understanding, in a general way, how people use the site
- Maintaining site security and reliability
We do not sell, trade, or rent personal information collected through WorkingBlind.
5. When we share information collected through WorkingBlind
We may share personal information collected through WorkingBlind in limited situations:
Internally within BALANCE
- Emails sent from WorkingBlind may be shared with the appropriate staff member or team so they can respond to you.
With service providers who support the site
- For example, our web hosting provider or IT support, who may have access to basic technical logs to keep the site running and secure.
- These providers are expected to protection personal information and only access if necessary and with permission from BALANCE to support smooth functioning of the website.
When required by law
- We may share information if we are required to do so by law (for example, to comply with a court order or law enforcement request).
We do not share personal information collected through WorkingBlind with other organizations so they can market their own services to you.
6. Links to other websites and services
WorkingBlind contains links to other websites and services, including:
- BALANCE for Blind Adults’ main website and program information
- The CanadaHelps donation platform
- Other organizations’ resources, tools, or training materials
When you follow a link or use an embedded third-party tool:
- This Privacy Policy does not apply to any information you provide there
- The privacy policy of the other site or service will apply instead
We encourage you to read the privacy policy on any site you visit from a link on WorkingBlind, especially if you are:
- Sharing personal or health information as a client, or
- Making a donation or payment
7. How we protect information
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we receive through WorkingBlind, including:
- Limiting access to staff who need the information to respond to you or support the site
- Using passwords and access controls on email and systems
- Using reputable web hosting and email providers with appropriate security practices
No website or email system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information as safe as reasonably possible.
8. How long we keep information
We keep personal information collected through WorkingBlind only as long as it is needed to:
- Respond to your messages, and
- Meet any legal, operational, or record-keeping requirements
Emails may be kept in BALANCE’s email system in line with our general record retention practices. When information is no longer needed, we take steps to delete it or de-identify it.
9. Your choices
Because WorkingBlind collects very limited personal information, your main choices are:
Whether to email us
- You decide what information to include in any email you send using addresses listed on the site (such as training@balancefba.org).
Whether to use the donation form
- If you use the embedded CanadaHelps form, your information is handled under CanadaHelps’ policies.
Whether to follow links to other sites
- If you choose to visit BALANCE’s main website, CanadaHelps.org, or other linked sites, their privacy policies will apply.
If you have questions about any personal information we may hold about you in relation to WorkingBlind, you can contact us using the information below.
